PORTRAITS
Portrait commissions are always preferably painted from life but as time retraints do not alway allow this to happen a combination of painting using a sight size technique and photos which are taken in the studio maximising the light and shadow.
Portraits are typically painted life size, or a little under. A traditional ‘head study’ portrait measures 50 cm width x 60 cm height, a historical 'head and shoulders' portrait 63cm width x 76 cm height and a historical (head and one hand) portrait 71cm width x 91cm height. Other proportions are possible and can be discussed. Painting commissions start from $10,000.
OTHER
Commissions are not limited to portraiture. Anna also enjoys painting on a larger scale and the human form plays a decisive role in her work, using a mixture of mediums alternating between abstract and realism. If you have a particular concept in mind please get in touch to discuss your ideas fully. Prices vary depending on size.
TERMS OF ENGAGEMENT
For portraits once the size pose and the place where the finished work will hang is established , a photo shoot appointment in the studio will follow beginning the portrait process. The canvas is then ordered and the basic lay down with the agreed image. Follow up sittings will be flexible but preferably at the approximate same time of day.
PAYMENT SCHEDULE
A non-refundable deposit, for a third of the total payment, is paid upfront. This allows for materials and set-up costs.
A second payment, of a third of the total payment, is taken midway through the commission on request. The commissioner is asked to confirm they are happy with the pose, and the general direction the painting is taking. The painting is then brought to a conclusion. This allows for you to request significant changes or to cancel the project at this stage etc.
The final payment, of the remaining third, is taken upon completion and delivery of the painting, the portrait is finished only when all parties are happy.
Framing is not included and is left to client discretion and choice although we are happy to advise and recommend framers we work closely with.
